Tax Filing Checklist
Use this information to guide you through every stage of your tax filing.
Know the Tax Deadlines
- January 31: Due date for businesses to issue Forms W-2 and 1099.
- April 15 is Tax Day: Federal deadline for Form 1040 (for most individuals).
- October 15: With an extension (Form 4868), you get an additional six months to file your tax returns.
- Deadlines that fall on weekends or holidays shift to the next business day.
Organize your Tax Information
- See Essential Tax Prep Paperwork for an overview of the information needed to complete your tax filing.

- Documents also may be delivered or mailed to our office (retain copies of any original papers submitted).

- New clients must provide copies of the prior year tax returns, if available.
- No appointment is required for tax preparation. We will contact you with questions, then to review and finalize your tax returns.

Make your Tax Payments
- Be prepared to pay your taxes when you file by making sure the appropriate account(s) are funded.
- The IRS recommends electronic payment options but currently still accepts checks/money orders by mail.
- Payments must include taxpayer(s) social security number(s) and the relevant tax year to be applied correctly.
Check your Refunds
- Depending on when you file electronically, you could receive your tax refunds by check or direct deposit within 2–3 weeks.
- If you have not received your refunds after 4 weeks, check the status with the appropriate tax authority
